Frequently Asked Questions - AL 2404 BOSCH

What types of batteries can I charge with the AL 2404 charger?
The AL 2404 charger is designed exclusively for Bosch NiCd/NiMH batteries with the APT connector, with a voltage of 7.2 to 24 V. Do not charge other types of batteries to avoid any risk of fire or electric shock.
How do I know if my battery is fully charged?
The charger does not have an automatic stop. The LED simply indicates the presence of a charging current. When the battery becomes hot to the touch, it is fully charged. Then unplug the charger and remove the battery.
What should I do if the charging LED does not light up?
First check that the mains plug is properly connected and that the battery is correctly inserted into the compartment. If the LED remains off, clean the battery contacts by inserting and removing it several times. If the problem persists, the battery or charger may be defective; contact Bosch customer service.
Can I use the charger outdoors?
Yes, but only if the charger is connected to a residual current device. Do not expose the charger to rain or moisture, as water increases the risk of electric shock.
How long does it take to charge a battery?
The charging time depends on the capacity: 3 hours for 1.2 Ah, 4 hours for 1.5 Ah, and 5 hours for 2.0 Ah. The charging current is fixed at 400 mA.
Does a new battery take longer to reach its full capacity?
Yes, a new battery or one that has not been used for a long time only reaches its full power after about five charge and discharge cycles. Leave the batteries in the charger until they become hot during the first charges.
The charger heats up during use, is this normal?
Yes, continuous or successive charging cycles can cause the charger to warm up. This phenomenon is harmless and should not be interpreted as a defect.
How do I clean the charger and the battery?
Keep the charger clean with a dry cloth. To clean the battery contacts, you can insert and remove them several times. Never use liquids or abrasive cleaners, and do not open the charger.
What should I do if my battery discharges too quickly after recharging?
If the battery's service time decreases significantly after several charges, this means the battery is worn out and must be replaced. NiCd/NiMH batteries have a limited lifespan.
How do I dispose of the charger at the end of its life?
Do not dispose of the charger in household waste. In accordance with the WEEE directive, it must be taken to a collection point for recycling. Packaging and accessories must also follow appropriate recycling channels.

Entsorgung

▶ Connect battery chargers that are used in the open via a ground fault circuit breaker.
- Keep the battery charger away from rain or moisture. Penetration of water in the battery charger increases the risk of an electric shock.
▶ Do not charge other batteries. The battery charger is suitable only for charging Bosch NiCd/NiMH batteries with the voltages listed in the technical data. Otherwise there is danger of fire and explosion.
- Keep the battery charger clean. Contamination can lead to danger of an electric shock.
Before each use, check the battery charger, cable and plug. If damage is detected, do not use the battery charger. Never open the battery charger yourself. Have repairs performed only by a qualified technician and only using original spare parts. Damaged battery chargers, cables and plugs increase the risk of an electric shock.

▶ Do not operate the battery charger on easily inflammable surfaces (e.g., paper, textiles, etc.) or surroundings. The heating of the battery charger during the charging process can pose a fire hazard.

Operation

Starting Operation

▶ Observe the mains voltage! The voltage of the power supply must correspond with the data given on the nameplate of the battery charger. Battery chargers marked with 230 V can also be operated with 220 V.

Charging Procedure

The charging procedure starts as soon as the mains plug of the battery charger is plugged into the socket outlet and the battery 1 is inserted into the charging compartment 2.

The battery charge indicator 3 is not a charge-control indicator. The lit indicator signalises the flow of charging current.

The charging procedure is not ended automatically. Therefore, disconnect the battery charger from the mains supply after the battery has been charged and remove the battery. A temperature increase of the battery indicates that the battery is fully charged.

Operating Instructions

With continuous or several repetitive charging cycles without interruption, the charger can warm up. This is not meaningful and does not indicate a technical defect of the battery charger.

A battery that is new or that has not been used for a longer period will not achieve its full capacity until after approx. 5 charging and discharging cycles. Leave such a battery in the battery charger until it has warmed up considerably.

A significantly reduced working period after charging indicates that the battery is used and must be replaced.
